Online Safety
Online Safety at Bolsover Church of England Junior School
At Bolsover Church of England Junior School, we are committed to ensuring that our pupils stay ready, respectful, and safe while navigating the online world. The internet offers incredible opportunities for learning, creativity, and connection, but it also comes with risks. Our goal is to equip children with the knowledge and skills they need to use technology confidently and safely.
Our Approach to Online Safety
We believe that online safety is a shared responsibility between school, parents, and children. Here’s how we work together:
- Education and Awareness: Online safety is embedded in our curriculum through Computing and Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) lessons.
- E-Safety Days: We participate in events such as Safer Internet Day, where pupils explore the importance of online kindness and responsible digital behaviour.
- Supervised Access: All internet use at school is monitored and filtered to ensure a safe online environment.
Tips for Parents and Guardians
We encourage parents to actively engage in their children’s online activities and maintain open conversations about internet use. Here are some practical tips:
- Talk About Online Behaviour: Discuss the importance of treating others with kindness online and avoiding risky behaviours.
- Set Boundaries: Establish screen time limits and set clear rules for device use at home.
- Know Their Platforms: Familiarise yourself with the apps, games, and websites your child uses.
- Use Parental Controls: Enable age-appropriate settings on devices and internet services.
- Check Privacy Settings: Regularly review privacy settings on social media accounts and other platforms.
How to Report Concerns
If you or your child come across anything online that makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, it’s important to speak up. You can report concerns to:
- School Staff: Speak to your child’s teacher or our Designated Safeguarding Lead.
- Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP): Visit the CEOP website to report online exploitation or abuse.
- NSPCC Helpline: Call 0808 800 5000 for advice and support.
- Thinkuknow: Explore Thinkuknow for age-appropriate advice on staying safe online.
