Pupil Leadership Groups
At Bolsover Church of England Junior School, we believe that every pupil has the potential to make a positive difference. Our pupil leadership groups provide children with meaningful opportunities to develop confidence, responsibility, communication skills and a sense of service to others.
Rooted in our Christian values of Faith, Hope and Love, our pupil leaders work alongside staff and their peers to help shape school life. They learn that every individual counts, every moment matters, and that together we can make our school an even better place to learn and grow.
Our pupil leadership groups give children a genuine voice in decision-making and allow them to contribute to areas that are important to the school community. Through these roles, pupils develop leadership skills, resilience, teamwork and an understanding of democracy, responsibility and active citizenship.
Pupil leaders may be involved in:
- Gathering views and ideas from their peers
- Supporting school improvement initiatives
- Promoting positive behaviour and inclusion
- Leading events, campaigns and fundraising activities
- Encouraging pupil wellbeing and belonging
- Representing the school at community events
- Helping to uphold our school values and vision
By taking on leadership responsibilities, pupils learn how they can influence change, support others and become compassionate, responsible citizens who are ready to make a positive contribution to society.
Headteacher Advisory Team
The Headteacher Advisory Team is made up of pupils who work closely with the Headteacher to discuss key aspects of school life. Team members share the views of their peers, contribute ideas for school improvement and help evaluate initiatives across the school. This group provides a valuable pupil perspective and ensures that children's voices are heard in important decisions.
School Council
Our School Council represents the views of pupils from across the school. Elected by their classmates, councillors gather ideas, discuss issues that matter to children and help organise projects, fundraising events and community initiatives. Through School Council, pupils learn about democracy, leadership and how they can make a positive contribution to the school and wider community.
To ensure that all pupils have the opportunity to contribute to areas they are passionate about, our School Council is divided into a number of sub-committees. Each committee focuses on a specific aspect of school life and works alongside staff to gather pupil views, plan initiatives and make recommendations for improvement.
Examples of our sub-committees include:
Wellbeing and Inclusion Committee
This group helps to promote positive mental health, inclusion and a sense of belonging throughout the school. Members gather pupil voice, suggest ways to improve wellbeing and help ensure that everyone feels valued and supported.
Environment and Sustainability Committee
Pupils in this committee lead projects to improve the school environment and encourage environmentally responsible practices. They may focus on recycling, reducing waste, energy saving and enhancing outdoor spaces.
Learning and Curriculum Committee
This committee gathers feedback from pupils about teaching, learning and enrichment opportunities. Members help identify what pupils enjoy, what helps them learn best and how learning experiences can be further improved.
Charity and Community Committee
Focused on supporting others, this committee helps organise fundraising events, community projects and charitable initiatives. Members develop a sense of service and demonstrate our Christian values in action.
Behaviour and Relationships Committee
This group helps to promote positive behaviour, kindness, respect and good relationships across the school. Pupils may contribute ideas to support anti-bullying initiatives and celebrate positive conduct.
Events and Celebration Committee
Members help plan special events, celebration days and school activities. They gather ideas from pupils and support the organisation of occasions that bring the school community together.
By working within these committees, pupils develop leadership, teamwork, problem-solving and communication skills while making a meaningful contribution to school life. The committees provide a genuine platform for pupil voice and help ensure that every child has the opportunity to lead, influence and create positive change within our school community.
Classroom Monitors
Classroom Monitors play an important role in supporting the smooth running of day-to-day school life. They help with classroom organisation, resources and routines, acting as positive role models for their peers. This responsibility helps pupils develop independence, teamwork and a sense of pride in their learning environment.
